Job Description

Our client in the banking industry is looking for a General Manager whose responsibilities include formulating overall strategy, managing people and establishing policies. The successful candidate should be a thoughtful leader and a confident decision-maker, helping people develop and be productive, while ensuring growth of business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead and direct the development and implementation of the company’s strategic plan, annual business plan and budgets
  2. Develop plans for business growth & profitability targets of the bank
  3. Monitor and evaluate performance to generate a healthy portfolio on a monthly basis, including client satisfaction metrics.
  4. Coordinate the development of key performance goals for functions and direct reports.
  5. Ensure organizational quality through review, update, implementation and adherence to agreed policies, procedures and manuals.
  6. Ensure compliance and adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements as well as continuous update of processes, policies and procedures.
  7. Prepare budgets, annual business plans and operational plans.
  8. Lead the team in championing the bank’s brand image both internally and externally
  9. Oversee credit risk framework, implement credit strategies, policies and procedures in line with the bank’s corporate strategy and ensure compliance.
  10. Implement the microfinance plan focusing on increasing the outreach of the bank through innovative marketing programs and development of new credit and non-funded products.
  11. Lead in mobilization of sufficient funds for onward lending to customers
  12. Manage and maintain relationships with strategic stakeholders.
  13. Provide direct management of key functional managers and executives in the business unit.
  14. Ensure the development of tactical programs to pursue targeted goals and objectives.
  15. Ensure the overall delivery and quality of the unit’s offerings to customers.
  16. Engage in key or targeted customer activities.
  17. Oversee key hiring and talent development programs.
  18. Evaluate and decide upon key investments in equipment, infrastructure, and talent.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in senior management positions in a Microfinance Institution or Bank
  • Experience in credit origination and credit risk assessment in a lending environment coupled with mobilization and delivery channel development.
  • Flexible and resourceful; the ability to work in a fast-growing institution
  • A thorough understanding of microfinance performance metrics/indicators and the ability to interpret and process operations data;
